Panagiotis Staikouras has been holding the position of Lecturer in Law at the University of Piraeus, Department of Banking and Financial Managements since 2004, and the position of Assistant Professor in Law at the aforementioned Department since 2009. He graduated from the Law Department of the Athens University in 1998. He holds a Ph.D on Finance Law-Securities Regulation from London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London) and an LLM (Master in Laws) on Finance and Banking Law from Queen Mary & Westfield College (University of London). During the period from 1999 until 2000 he worked as a Research Fellow for the European Public Law Centre, focusing on a comparative assessment of the privatisation policy at Community level. During the period from 2000 until 2001 he worked as a Research Fellow at the Law Department of the London School of Economics and participated in the delivering of tutorial lectures of Banking Law, in the context of the LLM programme. Since 2000 he is an attorney-at-law, registered with the Athens Bar, specializing in the area of finance law and securities regulation, in particular.
Research
His research interests lie in the area of the legal framework of financial markets, with particular emphasis on the structure and operation of capital markets, economic theory of regulation, company law, corporate governance, international and EU law on financial services. He has published his work in refereed academic journals, both foreign and Greek, such as the Yearbook of International Financial and Economic Law, European Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance, European Business Law Review, Journal of Banking Regulation, European Business Organization Law Review, Legal Issues of Economic Integration, Επιθεώρηση Εμπορικού Δικαίου, Δίκαιο Επιχειρήσεων και Εταιριών, Εφημερίδα Διοικητικού Δικαίου. He is also author of the monograph published by Esperia Publications under the title “Privatisation Policy: European Theory and Practice”, and co-author (along with C. Gortsos and C. Livada) of the monograph under the title “The Institutional and Regulatory Framework of Capital Markets” (reproduced as “Fundamental Principles of Greek Capital Market Law”) published by the Hellenic Bank Association.
