The mission of our Department is twofold. First, to develop new venues in the Departmentβs program in finance that will afford exciting learning opportunities to our students. And second, to establish a leading core for modern financial research. The finance faculty is committed to sustaining excellence in teaching activities, research activities and helping our students succeed.
Academic Seminars
The departmental weekly seminar series runs every Thursday 16:15-18:00 at the University of Piraeus. Seminars are intended to promote knowledge in the area of Finance and its related fields of Economics, Econometrics and Accounting. Our guest speakers from universities, research centers, think tanks or central banks in Greece and abroad present and discuss their latest research work.

Professor Stephen A. Ross was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Department of Banking and Financial Management in a rich ceremony that took place at the Athens Concert Hall on May 5, 2009. Professor Ross is the Franco Modigliani Professor of Financial Economics at the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Seminars are well attended by faculty members, academics from other universities, doctoral students, and practitioners. In the past, well-known researchers from Cornell, Chicago, Columbia, ECB, HEC Lausanne, INSEAD, LBS, LSE, McGill, Northwestern, New York University, New York Fed, Oxford, UCLA, University of Southern California Warwick, Wharton, etc have presented their papers.
